The word Campbellpur is not related to Sir Colin Campbell. It is derived from Kamalpur ( a native village ) and Campbellpur is English pronunciation of Kamalpur. I am providing references in following .

It is clearly mentioned in above screenshot of the book that Campbellpur is not related to someone named Campbell but it the English pronunciation of a local village Kamilpur.

Even though at many places Campbellpore is mentioned in this book but I have chosen the above page ( screenshot ). Please note that Sir Sydney Cotton has written above text from 1854 whereas Sir Colin Campbell became Commander in Chief of India in 1857. So how come in 1854 the word Campbellpore can relate to a person who came there in 1857 ? This proves that Campbellpore is not related to Sir Colin Campbell.
اگرچہ اس کتاب میں کئی جگہوں پر کیمبل پور کا ذکر ہے لیکن میں نے مذکورہ صفحہ ( اسکرین شاٹ ) کا انتخاب کیا ہے. براہ کرم نوٹ کریں کہ سر سڈنی کاٹن نے اوپر کا متن 1854 سے لکھا ہے جب کہ سر کولن کیمبل 1857 میں ہندوستان کے کمانڈر ان چیف بنے تھے. 1854 میں لفظ کیمبل پور کا تعلق اس شخص سے کیسے ہو سکتا ہے جو 1857 میں وہاں آیا تھا؟ اس سے ثابت ہوتا ہے کہ کیمبل پور کا تعلق سر کولن کیمبل سے نہیں ہے

This paper was written ( most probably in 1854 ) before the Campbellpore Cantt was established and Campbellpore Cantt was established in 1858. In this paper it is written that temporary barracks are created for European troops are being created in Campbellpore. These barracks later laid the foundation of Campbellpore cantt. Land of these barracks was purchased from people of local village Kamilpur. People of Kamilpur were Syeds.
یہ مقالہ کیمبل پور کینٹ کے قیام سے پہلے ( ممکنہ طور پر 1854 میں ) لکھا گیا تھا اور کیمبل پور کینٹ 1858 میں قائم ہوا تھا. اس مقالے میں لکھا گیا ہے کہ کیمبل پور میں یورپی فوجیوں کے لیے عارضی بیرکیں بنائی جا رہی ہیں. ان بیرکوں نے بعد میں کیمبل پور کینٹ کی بنیاد رکھی. ان بیرکوں کی زمین مقامی گاؤں کامل پور کے لوگوں سے خریدی گئی تھی. کامل پور کے لوگ سید تھے

This book was published in 1854 i.e. 3 years prior to the appointment of Sir Colin Campbell as Commander in chief and it has the name Campbellpoor in it. This clearly means that the name Campbellpur is not related to Sir Colin Campbell.
یہ کتاب 1854 میں شائع ہوئی تھی یعنی سر کولن کیمبل کی بطور کمانڈر ان چیف تقرری سے 3 سال پہلے اور اس میں کیمبل پور کا نام ہے. اس کا واضح مطلب ہے کہ کیمبل پور نام کا تعلق سر کولن کیمبل سے نہیں ہے

Above image is a FIR of year 1911 which clearly reads ( highlighted in red block ) the name of District as Kamalpur ( in Urdu ). Please note that Talagang was part of District Campbellpur earlier and then it was separated.
اوپر کی تصویر سال 1911 کی ایک ایف آئی آر ہے جس میں واضح طور پر ضلع کا نام کامل پور ( اردو میں ) لکھا گیا ہے . براہ کرم نوٹ کریں کہ تلہ گنگ پہلے ضلع کیمبل پور کا حصہ تھا اور پھر اسے الگ کر دیا گیا تھا
I hope that above references are more than enough to prove that the old name of Attock i.e. Campbellpur is not related to Sir Colin Campbell, instead it is taken from the local village Kamalpur ( Known as Kamalpur Syedan these days )
